Summary
"A follow-up to the much-celebrated The Recovery Letters, this new book draws together a range of inspiring essays by individuals about a particular activity or hobby they took up to help them overcome their depression and taps into the growing social prescribing market. The book covers activities such as running, swimming, bird-watching, bouldering, choir-singing, painting etc. and provides inspirational and engaging advice and personal stories to help support those with depression. I think the positive action-based approach will appeal to the target market, and there's been a wealth of very popular self-help activity memoirs in recent years, though they only focus on one person's experience of a particular activity. The Recovery Letters is a very strong and JKP aligned brand, and I think this is a wise and intelligent development of their work. The Recovery Letters was selected for World Book Night 2018 and the Reading Well Scheme 2018, and it received publicity in the Daily Mirror, Marie Claire, Female First, Counsellor's Café, BBC South East, the Telegraph, Women's Health and Take a Break. James is very well-connected within the mental health world and since the publication of their first book their platform has grown significantly and they have a mental health book with Little, Brown due out May 2020. We will also have the support of the contributors whom all have major platforms within their chosen hobby. Health professionals too are now engaged in prescribing a range of activities to patients and an announcement in 2018 that doctors across the UK are being supported to prescribe arts activities like drama, creative reading and group singing instead of anti-depressants was supported by a new £4.5 m Government scheme, which provides further support for the book"--, Provided by publisher
