This remarkable book, originally published in 1889 under the name 'Report on the custody and condition of the public records of parishes, towns, and counties, ' brings together under one cover a town-by-town, church-by-church, and county-by-county listing of all the records existing for each jurisdiction. Each section is preceded by detailed explanatory notes, and numerous footnotes cite special circumstances related to particular records, such as missing volumes or records kept elsewhere.
